"Foi Portugal"
Video DVD, PAL, 3’,music by Crise Total 2004
Ever since Galileo the idea of the earth as a perfect sphere is predominant. This video
is made of pictures taken from a globe from the Natural History museum in NYC, which has
the particularity of having no signs of water. This Globe contradicts the preconceived
idea of a perfect solid, by showing the irregularities and asymmetries of the underwater
surface. The pictures are centered on the Portuguese territory (Continental and Atlantic).
Since there is no trace of the ocean it becomes difficult to recognize the region, which is
delimited/ defined only by the borders of the video image. The violence of the soundtrack
“Foi Portugal” (it was Portugal) by the hardcore band Crise Total, and the fast edition
emphasizes the lack of definition of the Portuguese territory as well as the irrelevance
and aggressively of political boarders. |
