The second edition of Super Stereo Demo will take place on the 9th and
10th of September 2005 at the Linhares da Beira castle. This is an independent
multi-disciplinary event and is produced by the Editora Variz. It’s the best way to show
some of the most recent Portuguese production in the field of electronic music, performance
and video-art, promoting more far-reaching experimentation of multi-disciplinary processes.
The main aim of the decentralisation of this project is that of promoting the crossing of
different contemporary disciplines among new audiences, and for that purpose it uses sound
and visual languages and concepts from techno entertainment, bringing together the
participation of artists and local projects that match the nature of the event in a single
show.
Super Stereo Demonstration is the title of a vinyl record released in the 1970’s by Philips.
It was about the exhaustive demonstration of Super Stereo effects of “spectacular” dimension
that could be listened to at home through the “Hi-Fi”, concept developed by this historic
label. These different performances which were registered at the time brought into our
homes the very realistic sounds, among so many others, of the simulacra of cities in flames,
chaos, robberies, assaults and police chases or just the difficult work of a lion trainer
in a circus show.
“This is definitely our time… It prefers the image to the thing, the copy to the original,
representation to reality, appearance to being… What is sacred to it is nothing but
illusion; but the truth, that’s what is profane” (Feuerbach)
